Granville Island

Granville Island, the arts, crafts and market area, is a great trip for the day. Can walk across the Granville Bridge, though with no direct walkway down to the island itself you end up doubling back a few blocks, or can take the ferry across and even continue further around the False Creek circuit for city views from the water. The island is connected to the Seawall walkway, which goes around the entire False Creek inlet, if interested in a longer walk.

Many little shops with some great art work., glass, pottery, wood, fabric, some of which is made onsite.
There is a Totem pole woodcarving place which is was great to see, if they are working on the day, though interesting regardless. Huge tree trucks being shaped with chainsaws. Glassblowing, painting and other arts and crafts all within easy walking access. The market has fresh foods to take away or a couple of areas to sit, enjoy the atmosphere and watch people, boats and wildlife pass. Hundreds of birds flock around the place and a little seal (sea lion, I only caught a glimpse) in the water around the moored boats.

There are a few restaurants with great views, alternately sit outside on made seating, or go to the nearby grassed areas. There are theatrical events that occur some evenings if that appeals to you. A wonderful place to spend a day or two.
