Kicking off 2010

Wow another year over and a new one has just begun!
Had a lovely, quieter New Years Eve after coming back from Victoria through the day. It was a wet one, though if I recall rain is meant to be good luck. There are many places with large and small parties to attend with cover charges, generally, to match. Since had been away didn’t get tickets early enough to some of the larger events, which could have been quite fun. Regardless, an evening is what you make of it. Found myself in a smaller bar with good music. Sat and chatted the night away. Midnight of course meant champagne and cheers from across the venue.

Liquor laws don’t appear to change based on the occasion and soon the place was closed, as were most other places. A few on Granville St were open, though was a one way door - out, not in! So at 3am was sitting in a coffee shop with quite a few people, I guess in the same situation. What happened to all night parties!!

A few hours sleep and the new year began for real!
Wanted to see the sunrise on the new decade, though overcast and wet, so whilst the sky got increasing less dark, no sunrays to spark the bright light. Had a fabulous walk around the place though got rather wet in the process and soon decided time to find a café to dry off. If ever you venture to Denman St, Vancouver, check out Dulcinea, a Spanish chocolate café. So yes you can of course get a huge range of hot chocolates and then whilst plain coffee’s are served have inspired range that include chocolate. And what I tried, was one of their Té’s (teas), with of course chocolate added into the range of exotic blends. I know I will be back on a few occasions!

Then in English Bay was the Polar Bear swim, an annual New Years Day crazy tradition where people strip down and head out into the water on mass. I wasn’t exactly tempted, though with the rain and moisture sinking into the bones probably didn’t have much to lose. Seeing the reactions of those who were to undertake the venture was amusing. Even as the layers were being peeled, cries of ‘OMG, It’s cold’ rang out. Some were still under the influence from last nights drinking activities and some possibly had either not stopped or had started again. Maybe this is the trick to feeling less! The attire that some people selected to wear for the occasion was interesting and quite funny to watch. Some came as teams, some flying solo, though all for fun and to be part of the atmosphere. The event certainly draws the spectators as well as those taking the plunge.

So once again Happy New Year and Decade. May it be fabulously inspired and eventful for each and all of you.
