Let it Snow!

Now Vancouver is known for rain in the winter, not really for snow. So when it came this weekend I was rather excited. It started just rather light with the flecks disappearing soon after landing, though as the day progressed ground cover was actually achieved. So for two days there was white across the city and then the rain came and all over… till next time? Yes, I’m still holding out that it will occur again come Christmas. The two winter Christmas’ I’ve had has included snow, so would like it to be a trifecta!

There is something peaceful about the snow. Covering, blanketing all that is beneath to create a new world. Maybe it’s because it isn’t within my ‘normal’ winter experiences, it was something unexpected even here, or that the new cover is clean and fresh that this serenity occurs. There were others complaining as it was perceived to interfere with their day, though that doesn’t change the fact that the weather is as it is, so may as well search for the beauty.

If it wasn’t the snow it was the water fountains with the edges turned to ice. Can't wait for day when see the upward spurt turned solid!

The evenings with the street lights gleaming off the moist snow are beautiful. The white turning to a dull orange under the fluorescent lamps. The bare branches becoming visible due to the white highlights. The snow slick and soft beneath the feet, a missed step could send you sliding, A-over-T. Where salt had been thrown now lay a puddle of water. So many wonderful images to remember!
